  MANCHESTER UNITED are worried Wayne Rooney’s fitness could add to the injury crisis that is threatening their season.

   

  The England striker is making slow progress recovering from a hamstring injury and United are reluctant to push him back into action too soon.

   

  And as they enter the critical stage of the season, United fear they could be without Rooney for another month. It was believed he would miss three weeks when he limped off on January 14.

   

  But Sir Alex Ferguson wants to keep him out until the end of February rather than risk him breaking down.

  Injuries have robbed Fergie of Rafael da Silva, Johnny Evans, Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Patrice Evra, Anderson, Nani, Ji-sung Park and Owen Hargreaves.

  Sir Alex Ferguson will be without 12 players as Manchester United look to consolidate their position as league leaders at West Brom on Tuesday. Fabio da Silva (calf) and Danny Welbeck (ankle) have been added to an already extensive injury list, leaving Ferguson little option but to pack his bench with youngsters.

  Darren Fletcher seems certain to play at right-back with Gary Neville partnering Nemanja Vidic in the centre of defence.

  Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to shrug off the effects of a stomach bug.

  England trio Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves remain sidelined.

  Scoring one goal in crucial times have been relatively easy and consistant so far so I hope this is going to be another one of those times.

  Manchester United defensive pair Wes Brown and Rio Ferdinand could feature tonight against West Brom.

  Both defenders trained yesterday.

  Ferdinand has not played since suffering a recurrence of his nagging back problem in the warm-up to United's Boxing Day game at Stoke.

  Brown's been out of action with an ankle injury since October.

  Manchester United's Ryan Giggs Claims West Brom Will Be No Whipping Boys

  They may be poles apart in England's top division, but bottom meets top on Tuesday evening as West Bromwich Albion host Manchester United.
  
  The Baggies are battling it out in one of the tightest relegation battles to ever grace the Premier League as it involves up to 11 clubs, whereas the Red Devils are the reigning domestic, European, and World champions.
  
  Veteran winger Ryan Giggs, 35, has warned his side against complacency as he believes that Tony Mowbray's men will provide as stern a test as any.
  
  He told the club's official website: "When you come towards the end of the season every team has something to play for.
  
  "Some are challenging for the title or a Champions League or UEFA Cup place, while others are doing everything to stay up. So every game is important whatever team you're up against.
  
  "We've just got to approach every match with the right attitude otherwise we'll get beaten."
  
  United have already beaten WBA 4-0 this season, however, all the goals in that encounter arrived in the second half after a hard fought opening period.
  
  "They outplayed us at times in the first half with their passing and movement and kept it at 0-0 until half-time," Giggs said.
  
  "They're on a good run at the moment, especially at home, and they're a team that like to play football. So it'll be a tough game.
  
  "We're just focused on getting the three points and staying top. Once you hit the front you want to stay there and that's definitely our aim."
