Aalborg BK midfielder Kasper Risgard has defended Manchester United
striker Wayne Rooney, saying that he should not be banned for his
alleged stamping on the Dane during their Champions League game on
Wednesday.
United were only able to manage a 2-2 draw against the well organised Danish champions.
25-year-old
Risgard was allegedly stamped on by Rooney during their Group E game at
Old Trafford, and there has been much outcry in the press claiming that
the fiery English striker should be banned for what seemed a deliberate
act.
However, the Danish midfielder has said that Rooney does not deserve punishment for the incident.
Risgard
is reported as saying, "I heard UEFA is looking at this but I don’t
think Rooney should be suspended. I haven’t seen the situation on TV
yet as we had our Christmas party the day after the match but I can
understand it looks bad on TV. It’s what happens in intensive matches.
"Wayne came up to me immediately and apologised. I appreciated that. I have nothing against him."
The Red Devils ended up top of their Champions League group after Celtic beat Spanish side Villarreal 2-0 at Celtic Park, and now United could face the likes of Jose Mourinho's Internazionale when the first knockout round is drawn on Friday.
after UEFA stepped in, then make this remark.. a bit late.
