Edwin van der Sar’s agent has revealed the Dutchman is to sign a new contract with Manchester United, with the Premier League champions to announce the news formally on Friday.
The 38-year-old, who insisted previously that he would keep an open mind as to whether he would carry on playing beyond the end of this season, will sign a one-year extension at Old Trafford.
Since joining United from Fulham in 2005 for a fee of £5 million, Van der Sar has retained his position as Sir Alex Ferguson’s number one and their association will now be extended to a fifth season.
Van der Sar’s agent Rob Jansen said: "Manchester will make it known officially on Friday.
"We have already been in talks about a new contract for a couple of weeks.
"Now we have reached an agreement. It is for one year. What will happen after that, I don't know."
The former Holland international, who recently announced his retirement from international football, has made 161 appearances in the Red Devils first team.
As a fan, I think it's good news. But I think it's frustrating Ben Foster.
yep, how the two reserves keepers feel... but as long as EVS performs, all diam diam lor.
