Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has admitted that his winning strike against Sunderland was the most important goal of his career.
The Serbian struck in the 90th minute at Old Trafford to seal all three points for the champions after it looked as though they would be denied victory by a resolute Sunderland.
The Red Devils dominated the game but despite a host of chances were unable to make the breakthrough, until Vidic popped up to slot home after Michael Carrick’s deflected shot had rebounded back off the post.
According to sportinglife.com, the Serbian admitted that it was the most important goal he had scored. He said, “It is not my favourite goal - but it is my most important one.”
The goal was Vidic’s fifth Premier League strike since arriving at Old Trafford in 2006 and he was clearly delighted with his effort.
“How important was it?” questioned the defender, “Just look at my reaction.”
The win ensured United did not fall further behind leaders Liverpool and Chelsea in the chase for the title and Vidic admitted his side could not have afforded to slip up against Sunderland. The Serbian explained: “At this time in the season, you need to win every game.”
The result leaves Sunderland in the bottom three and Vidic admitted the visitors had played well defensively but that, in his opinion, United had deserved the win. He concluded: “Sunderland did not make it easy because they defended with 11 men all the time. We didn't have that many clear chances but we never gave up - and in the end, we got our reward.”
Score more like this!
I was so happy when he scored!
Glorious ManUtd. . .
It does shows the pressure on MU to maintain winning to keep close to the front two..
Vidic at the moment is the star.. But I think Carrick is quietly moving up the gears 2.
was equally important as the one he scored last season vs Everton.
