The Bulgarian has invited comparisons with the Frenchman due to his laid-back style, delicate touch on the ball, skilful finishing and general demeanour.
However, according to the Telegraph, the former Tottenham man has asked for the comparisons to end.
“I am just myself. I don't want to be compared with anybody else - especially a legend like Cantona,” explained the striker, “If you ask some of the guys here, I am the quiet one. I don't talk much. I prefer to listen and watch.”
Berbatov also hit back at suggestions that he was a selfish player and insisted that the team was more important than individual performances.
“I don't play for myself,” said the 27-year-old before adding, “I play for the team.”
The striker appears to have settled into life at Old Trafford after a slow start to his United career. He has six goals already this season, including one in yesterday’s 5-0 win over Stoke City.
Berbatov also went on to reveal why he had chosen to swap Spurs for Manchester United, a move he appears delighted to have made.
Expaining his decision, he said,“You have 75,000 people supporting you every game, the most successful coach in the world and the best players in the world,”
He concluded, “What more could you want to try and improve? At 27, I’m in the final stage of my development as a player and to be able to do it with this team is fantastic.”
Its good that u know u are nothing compared to cantona.
