Patrice Evra has admitted he is looking to add an attacking dimension to his game.
The Frenchman has established himself as the number one left back at Old Trafford, but he is determined not to rest on his laurels.
Evra has earned praise for his willingness to aid the attack, but he feels he has more to offer in the opposition third of the field.
”I need to continue to defend well, but this season I really want to score more goals,” Evra told the club’s official website. ”I know I have the ability, but so far I haven’t been able to do that regularly at United.
”Of course, first and foremost I am defender and I need to do my job well, but I hope I will get the opportunity to create and score more goals.”
Evra claims United are not concerned that they are lagging behind Chelsea and Liverpool in the title race.
Chelsea and Liverpool have set a hot pace in the opening couple of months of the season and hold a five-point advantage over The Red Devils.
United do have a game in hand on their rivals and Evra feels it is far too early to be worried about a gap.
“The league is not a sprint, it’s a marathon,” said Evra. “Of course, Liverpool and Chelsea have done well, but it’s about who does well towards the end, not just at the start.”
