Carlos Tevez is relishing the battle for places at Manchester United, but feels he is competing with potentially the best player in the world in Wayne Rooney.
The signing of Dimitar Berbatov on the final day of the summer transfer window led to Argentina international Tevez slipping down the Old Trafford pecking order.
Sir Alex Ferguson has given Berbatov an extended run in the side and with Rooney in scintillating form, Tevez’s opportunities have been limited.
Rather than mope in the shadows, Tevez is knuckling down and says he will make it hard for his manager to leave him on the sidelines.
"I think it's great that there is competition," Tevez told MUTV. "It is up to me to be fit and ready for the manager to make the decision. I am very calm and relaxed.
"The only important thing is that I am ready when the team needs me. In my own head I have got that personal target to do better than last season."
Commenting on his rivals for a start at Old Trafford, Tevez added: "I think Berbatov is a great player. Technically he is very good and also tactically aware. He provides the height we need and is good in the air. He plays down the middle and lot of his play takes place in the centre.
"I think Rooney has all the attributes to be the best player in the world. I have always thought he is a fantastic player but now he is scoring goals everyone is saying that. But I have always thought he is a top player."
