Paul Scholes will miss Villarreal’s visit to Old Trafford on
Champions League Matchday 1 after being sent off in the UEFA Super Cup
on Friday night.
The 33-year-old earned his marching
orders in the 89th minute when he propelled Wes Brown’s cross into the
Zenit St Petersburg net with his hand.
Referee Claus Bo Larsen showed Scholes a yellow card, just as he had earlier in the match for a reckless challenge in midfield.
Article 18.01 of the UEFA Super Cup regulations state:
As a rule, a player who is sent off the field of play is suspended for the next match in a UEFA club competition.
Before
learning of Scholes’ impending ban, Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson
sympathised with the midfielder, suggesting “it was maybe an
instinctive thing, it’s a bit unfortunate”.
The manager also highlighted some of the over-zealous tackling that took place during the match.
Anderson
and Carlos Tevez also picked up bookings in Monaco, although these
cautions do not carry forward into the UEFA Champions League.
No comments.. not say no experience.. not say he young.. not say anything else.. whatever..
got video? sounds funny.. "propelled Wes Brown’s cross into the Zenit St Petersburg net with his hand."
lol.. sound like punch like that.. lol..
yea it was a bloody blatant volleyball smack.. hand damn bloody stretched out high.. go check on youtube.. effin retard lah scholes..
HAHA! i saw it! HAHAHA! what a nice lobshot! he should be in UK's volleyball team..! no one can get that shot.. lol..
The 1 match ban isn't serious at all... It comes between their matches against Liverpool and Chelsea. So maybe he wanted to play against them and don't want to play in the midweek match against Villarreal... Maybe he planned it and did it on purpose at the end of that match... or maybe he was just plain silly for a split second moment...
For his age, he cannot be playing 3 matches in 7 days... So give up the centre one or the weakest match which is Villarreal...
yah.. wah piang eh.. a volleyball player could not have done better!
