Hull boss Phil Brown is hopeful Manchester United will add to their attacking options soon so that the Premier League newcomers can bring Fraizer Campbell back on loan.
Campbell was a major part of Hull’s promotion charge last season, but Sir Alex Ferguson has refused to let him return to the KC Stadium due to his failure to sign a striker this summer.
However, with reports that United are closing in on Dimitar Berbatov, Brown is now hopeful that the deal could be revived.
Hull already boosted their squad this week with the arrival of Marlon King from Wigan on a season-long loan and, while there is a limit of two loan signings between English clubs per transfer window, the loan move for Tottenham’s Anthony Gardner has now become a permanent £2.5m deal.
"We've left a loan deal open just in case,” he told the Hull Daily Mail. “We're in the market for a new striker as everyone knows.
"If that is a permanent deal or another loan signing, we'll have to see. You can read into it however you like.
"If Sir Alex brings in one, two or three new strikers, does it mean that there is a surplus of strikers? The answer to that would be yes. Sir Alex knows of our intentions. Hopefully, we're in the same ball park as him."
