Roy Keane looks to have crossed Manchester United defender Jonny Evans off his summer shopping list.
Keane has continued to reiterate his desire to take Sunderland to a higher level by splashing the cash during the close-season.
White Hart Lane has been his major focus, with Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque all joining The Black Cats from Tottenham.
Evans impressed whilst on loan at The Stadium of Light last season and Keane has made no bones about his yearning to see the 20-year-old return to the North East on a more permanent basis.
However, the Irishman now looks set to shelve plans to return to his former club in order to bolster his own ranks.
"My mindset was always that Jonny was going to go back to United," said Keane.
"When United sold Pique [to Barcelona] we were pretty sure they would hold on to Jonny."
