Edwin van der Sar will delay until December a decision on whether to call time on his career at the end of this season.
Van der Sar, who is 38 later this year, is in the final year of his Old Trafford contract but starts the season as United’s first choice between the posts.
The Dutchman is mindful that age and the odd injury could hamper his abilities so the former Juventus and Fulham star will assess his options at a later date.
Van der Sar told Voetbal International: “I do not know [if it is my final year]. I look at it from year to year
“If everyone is happy, okay. But if you are faced with injuries and you miss long periods, then you have a different outlook.
“I could play a very steady season and do well or the club might no longer be satisfied.
“In December I will look to see how things are - that's a good time to decide.”
