vs
Pre Season Friendly : Manchester United vs Juventus
6 Aug 2008
3am, Thursday morning.
Speaking ahead of their pre-season clash with his former team at Old
Trafford tonight, the veteran Dutch keeper suggested that the
Bianconeri have learned a hard lesson as a result of the Calciopoli
scandal.
"I am glad they are back for the players," said Van Der
Sar, who was at Juventus between 1999 and 2001 before making his first
foray into England by signing for Fulham.
"But of course the allegations and certain things that happened were not nice.
"I just hope they learn from it and they will be part of the Italian elite again."
The
37-year-old went on to insist that he does not regret not having signed
for United in the first place when he left Ajax in 1999.
"Maybe it did not end the way I wanted but it was a great experience," he added.
"I
never played to my full potential. It was my first time abroad and
Juventus played quite differently to the way we played at Ajax.
"I
had to get used to a lot of different things and although I was able to
speak the language in about three months, sometimes on the pitch I was
half a second late shouting something and the moment had gone, which
was unfortunate.
"A lot of people say that I should have gone to
United instead but I had already had two meetings with Juventus before
United came in.
"It was not like I was talking to Palermo or
Fiorentina. They were two great clubs on the same level and you cannot
make choices with the benefit of hindsight."

CB i fell asleep on my couch after the match... now neck pain.
Rafael is dammmmmm gooood!
Possebon tooooooo!
But quite sad Fabio is being overshadowed by Raf....
Yes, Rafael is indeed a good player that can make it to the first team very soon... As a right-back, he goes up and attack very well also... Only thing is he is still a bit inexperience, cos at times, when facing an attacker one on one, he just stand there and look at the ball and the guy suddenly move and run pass him... But he still looks like the one that will most likely to move up, only thing is he is rather small size.
ok.. haha time for me to critic again.. sorry but match was boring.. pfft but juve looks like they are really friendly mode lols.. man u up a bit.. rafael looks ok yesterday but i was thinking hes not ready to be first team yet.. in the BPL he will face faster and stronger wingers.. Possibon very much reminded me of hargreaves.. definitely someone to look out for.. gibson is ok i guess did his role ok need more exposure i guess.. martins is still quite raw and if fergie does the trick well martins can be quite a gem.. dunnoe why yest tevez like hate him everytime dont want to pass to him when he is damn bloody open down the wing.. quite selfish play by tevez yest ending up losing the balls.. giggs mmm cant play first team la lols.. scholes? strayed passes so so many times.. tsk tsk unlike him lols.. other than that thers not much testing of keepers.. boorrrrrring.. lollls
rafael and fabio are not fully fit all leh, they never even play any competitive football for the past year, much less 90 mins of it.
For Juventus it's time to draw up a first balance after their tour in England. A victory against Arsenal (1-0), a defeat against HSV (3-0), and a scoreless draw against English and European champions Manchester United: these were the results obtained by the Bianconeri, the first two matches being in the Emirates Cup organised by the Gunners.
On his official website, Juve captain Alex Del Piero talked about the match against the Red Devils.
"Our English away trip ended with a 0-0 draw against the reigning European champions. In these matches we've had a chance to play matches against international opponents and prepare for the Champions League preliminary match, which is crucial for our season," he stated.
Despite it being only a friendly, the match against Manchester United will remain in Pinturicchio's heart for a long time, specifically because of the applause he received by the English fans.
"Personally, I'm very happy about the way I'm playing right now. And on my exit from Old Trafford, the applause from the fans moved me and gave me a big emotion, for this I thank them," he concluded.
he deserved it.
