Manchester United‘s France international defender Mikael Silvestre is understood to be wanted by Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill to solve a temporary full-back problem at Villa Park.
O’Neill is now seriously short of cover at left-back following the
dislocated ankle suffered by Dutch star Wilfred Bouma during Villa’s
InterToto Cup clash against Odense at the weekend. Bouma could be out
of action for up to six months, leaving Villa exposed in that position,
with Silvestre seen as a possible solution to bridge the gap.
O'Neill
has reportedly approached United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson about
the possibility of taking Silvestre on loan, and with John O'Shea able
to cover for Patrice Evra, Fergie may be amenable.
However,
Silvestrre, 30, is also a target for French capital club Paris St
Germain, who are busily putting together an experienced squad after
last season’s flirtation with relegation. That could pose Villa another
problem, though PSG are thought to be seeking a permanent deal for
Silvestre.
