Manchester United pair Cristiano Ronaldo and
Anderson have been alerted to an incident concerning their
multi-million pound mansions in Alderley Edge.
The Mirror reports that unnamed thieves first targeted the home of a cleaner who
is contracted to both properties, making off with the keys to Ronaldo
and Anderson's houses.
The keys were inside the cleaner's handbag and found stashed nearby by police officers.
Both
players are currently out of the country, but Old Trafford staff have
alerted them of the breach and assigned security to their homes and the
surrounding area.
The plush area in Ashton-under-Lyne, 12 miles south of Manchester, is home to a number of current United stars including Rio Ferdinand, Mikaƫl Silvestre and Michael Carrick. The Beckhams also lived there during David's time at the club.
A source explained: "There is no evidence this was a targeted break-in, but you simply don't know."
Police confirmed the theft, adding that, "inquiries are ongoing."
Meanwhile, Anderson is hoping his house will be safe enough by the time he returns from Beijing to store a gold medal.
The 20-year-old will represent Brazil U-23s in the Olympic football tournament and hopes for a strong showing.
He said: "I can't deny how important it is to win the only medal that Brazil has never won."
