Carlos Queiroz has confirmed that Manchester United are trying to keep him at the club in the light of Portugal's intention to appoint him as their next coach.
Sir Alex Ferguson's number two is on the brink of clinching the international post depite the attraction of remaining at Old Trafford and the reported prospect of a pay increase.
Speaking at a club-related launch of a new schools project in Lisbon, Quieroz admitted to Observatorio do Algarve that Ferguson's determination to keep him was holding up the change in roles.
"This is public [knowledge]," he answered. "Otherwise, the case would be solved.
"Going back to Portugal is legitimate, it's more than a dream because I've still got my Bilhete de Identidade [identity card] despite being away for more than 14 years.
"But I think now is not the place [to confirm it]. I will not rule on this matter because there are two institutions - the Portugese Federation and Manchester United - to deal with this matter."
