Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be interested in the striker.
Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar claims Manchester United are "very interested" in signing him. The 24-year-old's failure to agree a new contract at the Amsterdam ArenA has led to speculation he could be in line for a move, and the Holland frontman reckons the English champions are keen to acquire his services.
United are in the market for a striker, with doubts over the Old Trafford future of injury-jinxed Louis Saha persisting, and news that new signing Manucho Goncalves may have a broken metatarsal picked up on international duty with Angola.
And 6ft 1ins Huntelaar hopes to be that man, saying: "I love clubs with great history like Ajax, I also love Manchester United. "It's a club that makes me dream.
Ajax already appear resigned to losing Huntelaar, smashing their own club record by paying £12.8m for what appears to be an obvious replacement, Serbian striker Miralem Sulejmani from Heerenveen. But they are still said to be asking £20m for Huntelaar, with Real Madrid also taking a careful look at a player who has scored 131 goals in 173 appearances in Dutch domestic football, and eight in 13 for the national side.
He fits the bill for United, who are seeking an old-fashioned goal-scoring centre forward, and have also been checking out Spurs' Dimitar Berbatov and Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz. All three men are tall, with good aerial ability, but are also deft on the ground, and Sir Alex Ferguson sees such a target man as a key addition to his talented young squad.
Manucho already fits that bill, at 6ft 2ins, but he is untried in European football, apart from his spell on loan at Panathinaikos last season. And he reported back for training last week with a foot injury, which is expected to be confirmed as a broken metatarsal when the results of an X-ray are known.
