The current mood at Old Trafford seems to be fluctuating mostly between
doom and gloom as Cristiano Ronaldo’s future edges into previously
uncharted realms of uncertainty.
Such anxiety is in direct
contrast to the dazzling euphoria of the season just past, which saw
United claim their third European Cup and close within one of
Liverpool’s record 18 league titles.
One of the brightest lights came in the form of Anderson, who arrived last summer from Porto for a sum of around ₤18million.
Some
questioned whether the Brazilian youngster would settle into the
English game, but it did not take long for the ex-Gremio midfielder to
establish himself as a vital cog in the Red Devils' engine room.
It
was Scholes’ injury that allowed Anderson to settle in the starting XI,
and the former England international was full of praise for his fellow
middle-man, who some have audaciously tagged as the next Edgar Davids.
“He
improved as last season went on and is a great prospect,” said the
33-year-old. “It's a well known fact that foreign players can take time
to settle, but in truth it didn't take him that long.
“He's been fantastic whenever he's played. He's only 20 years old so it's amazing to think what he could achieve in his career.”
Mmm so far no news of Anderson's injury hor, must be nothing serious then.
