The 20-year-old was a big hit at the Stadium of Light last season
during his second loan spell with the Black Cats, but Sunderland's
hopes of signing Evans on a permanent deal from United hit a major road
block.
United have reportedly put a block on the departure of
defender Jonny Evans - either on loan or in a permanent transfer -
following the departure of Gerard Pique to his former club Barcelona.
Now,
Newcastle are reportedly hoping to budge in line of their local rivals
by preparing a lucrative offer for Evans, which they will submit if and
when United find a more seasoned replacement for the Spanish defender.
Sir
Alex Ferguson is known to rate Evans highly, but with the likes of Rio
Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidić standing before him the prospects of the
Belfast born defender breaking into the first team could hardly look
more daunting.
