United are plotting a major spending spree should they lose superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The
European and Premier League champions are fighting tooth and nail to
hold on to prize asset Ronaldo, who has the reputation of being the
best player in the world.
But they they do not want to get
caught out if the 42-goal Footballer of the Year finally forces the
issue and says he wants to quit Old Trafford before the start of the
season.
The club would not leave the player to rot in the
reserves but instead would tell Real Madrid to shatter the £47m world
transfer record, which Madrid paid to Juventus in 2001.
United
have already made an official formal complaint to FIFA over Real's
conduct in the Ronaldo saga, but the Bernabeu giants insist they have
done nothing wrong.
But the Reds are intent on not being
caught cold by a possible Ronaldo departure, and if a Karim Benzema deal proves unachievable, they have drawn up a list of other top
targets.
Profile
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been constantly linked with a move away from Ajax and at 24 fits nicely into United's age profile.
Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov remains a crowd-pleasing option with a Premier League pedigree of 27 goals in 69 matches for Spurs.
But the signing that would most certainly compensate for any potential loss of Ronaldo would be Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
The
Argentinian will be 21 in a fortnight, and wowed Old Trafford and
United with his individual displays for Barca in the Champions League
semi- final ties against the Reds.
Getting Barcelona to
agreeing to a Nou Camp departure would be tough but a £50m bite out of
any fee received for Ronaldo might force the Catalan club's hand.
Hmm don't think Messi would want to join Man Utd.
i really think that they're in trouble coz like everybody all snubbing them or already transferred to another club liao
like ramsey and alves
would be sad to see united ending up paying hell lot more for players coz of their stellar performances at the euros
I read somewhere that Huntelaar is keen on a Madrid move liao.
well...look @ how chelsea is struggling to fill their manager, arsenal and even MUFC struggling to attract the big stars...
EPL taking a few steps back..
.

true but i hope we dont end up with kosong signings...
or worst still, be forced to buy players who are 2nd best to our original targets
Manchester United could buy Sergio Ramos and Robinho from Real Madrid, in return for any deal which would see Cristiano Ronaldo move to Spain. (Metro 1548 BST)

So ronaldo is most likely to move..
but then, how will Sergio and Robinho feels as makeweights??
get ruud back!
i think end of the day, we should not really worry about which players leave or which players coming.
the thing that is most worrying is what will happen to man utd, after fergie retires.
