Current Lyon boss Alain Perrin will get the sack despite leading the
club to their seventh consecutive Ligue 1 crown and their first Coupe
de France since 1973.
And OL president Jean-Michel Aulas has
identified Queiroz as a realistic candidate for the job at Stade
Gerland, hinting that he has a hot tip regarding the Portuguese coach’s
availability.
"I had thought of him, but it did seem difficult to me," Aulas said in News of the World. "Now, following confidential information I have received, everything is conceivable."
Aulas
and co have been impressed by Queiroz’s contributions at United, who
knocked Les Gones out of last season’s Champions League on the way to
winning the competition.
Sir Alex Ferguson, who announced
recently that he would retire within the next three years, has hinted
that his Mozambique-born assistant should be heading the pack to
succeed him at Old Trafford.
Queiroz has left the Red Devils
once before when he took the reins at Real Madrid in 2004, returning to
Manchester just a season later after enduring a torrid time at the
Bernabeu.
The former South Africa coach is reportedly keen to
establish himself as a top-flight manager, and Lyon are prepared to
grant the 55-year-old the opportunity to stake his claim.
