RIO FERDINAND has admitted he has no sympathy for Arsenal after helping to crush their last chance of silverware.
While his Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson put a consoling arm around the Gunners’ despairing manager Arsene Wenger, Ferdinand was in no mood for condolence.
“This is no time for sentiment,” said the England centre-back.
“That might sound harsh, but I’m sure they wouldn’t be worrying about us if we were in a position not to win a trophy.”
Ferdinand ruthlessly emphasised: “We only care about Manchester United.
“Arsenal are a great side and play fantastic football but we just need to keep our eyes on ourselves and, if we do that, we’ll go a long way to being successful."
The comeback 2-1 win on Sunday has gone a long way to ensuring United successfully defend their Premier League title, which they could clinch at Chelsea a week on Saturday.
Cristiano Ronaldo's re-taken penalty and Owen Hargreaves' curled free-kick wiped out Emmanuel Adebayor's opener at Old Trafford to doom Arsenal to another trophy-less campaign.
And Ferdinand was under no illusions about the magnitude of the victory.
"It's a massive result to get three points against one of the teams vying for the title.
"In the past they've managed to peg us back every time we've gone ahead but Sunday was reversed.
"It's the stage of the season where it's crunch time. The trophies are being handed out soon and these three points get us a step closer to being able to pick up one of those trophies.
"We showed the confidence and resilience that has been a trademark of ours for the last couple of years. Long may it continue."
But vastly-experienced Ferdinand cautioned: "There are more points to be played for. The title is not handed out yet."
