Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was in fact the best mover at the top of the European Sports Magazine's ranking list. The Ajax captain scored twice in Sunday’s 4-0 Eredivisie demolition of Excelsior Rotterdam and leapfrogged Sevilla’s Luís Fabiano and Arsenal’s Manuel Adebayor, who both failed to score over the weekend.
The 24-year-old Dutchman has been overwhelming this season, counting up 26 strikes in 27 league appearances and a total of 29 in 34 in all competitions. On 39 points he’s now second in the ESM rankings, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, whose 21 Premiership hits with Manchester United have earned him 42 points.
Goal drought
The Portuguese super star did not score against Fulham, coming on for Carlitos Tévez on 69 minutes and leaving his season tally to 29 goals in 32 outings. Amazingly enough, Huntelaar was the only one inside the top-fifteen to find the back of the net even once in the league during the past week, even though the ESM list obviously includes some of the hottest names in world football.
