TEAM NEWS
Manchester United
United are
still missing long term casualties Gary Neville, Mikael Silvestre and
Ben Foster. Otherwise, Sir Alex will field his strongest side. That
means a return to the starting line up for Vidic, Giggs, Rooney and
Ronaldo.
Home coach Sir Alex Ferguson will look for a balanced
midfield performance, although it's clear from the probable selection
of Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney that he has no intention of sitting back.
Lyon
The
suggestion that captain Cris, out since last August with knee trouble,
could be poised to take his place at centre half might not be just
kidology. The defender started against Lille at the weekend, part of
strong line-up that Perrin sent out to do battle against a team in
mid-table. Benzema played an hour and Govou and Juninho for less than
80 minutes. Bodmer was preferred in midfield to Källström who was held
back along with Grosso.
Lyon report no injuries after the Ligue
1 match and Perrin will in all likelihood look to start with the same
side that was three minutes from victory over United last month,
although Hatem Ben Arfa could take part. Benzema should move up front
after angrily playing out of position in that Lille encounter.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Rooney (Manchester United): Before
his October injury, Rooney didn’t miss when offered a sight of goal.
Since his return, the England forward has not been quite so unerring
but has shown his usual commitment to the cause, to the point where he
delights the crowd by tracking back to his own penalty area to
dispossess an opponent. Ferguson will demand the player does his best
work in front of Coupet’s goal. If the manager’s instructions are
heeded, United will qualify.
Toulalan (Lyon): Lyon’s
striker Benzema claims all the headlines with his scoring prowess but
the key to French success could lie with the ability of Toulalan to
triumph in the contest for midfield supremacy. The player was exemplary
as a defensive screen at the Stade de Gerland. Together with Källström,
he will need to put in a similar performance if Lyon are to have any
chance.
Giggs doubtful for Lyon clash
United could be without their most experienced player for Tuesday's crucial match against Lyon.
Ryan Giggs is still feeling the effects of a calf injury he sustained in the away leg, when he made his 100th UEFA Champions League appearance against the French league leaders.
Sir Alex Ferguson admitted on Monday afternoon: "The one doubt (for Tuesday's match) is Ryan Giggs. The blow he took in the Lyon away game has proved a bit more complicated than we first thought.
"It’s held him back from training as much as we’d like. He did a bit this morning, and on Saturday morning - he had Sunday off for treatment - so he is a doubt."
Giggs has missed both of United's domestic matches since the 1-1 draw with Lyon, the 5-1 victory at Newcastle and this weekend's 3-0 win at Fulham.
Victory over Lyon on Tuesday will see United equal Juventus' record in the competition of 10 straight home victories in the competition.
All is seemingly not well in the Lyon camp as they prepare to head to Manchester United for their crucial Champions League second round second leg on Tuesday.
The French champions will arrive in England with disharmony in the camp, after arguably their two most important players failed to shake hands.
Karim Benzema, scorer of Lyon’s goal in the first leg, was substituted for Hatem Ben Arfa during Lyon’s 1-0 victory over Lille on Saturday.
Benzema cut a sulky figure as he skulked off the pitch at Stade Gerland, choosing not to shake hands with his 20-year-old team-mate as he left the pitch.
The duo’s fiery relationship is well-known in France, although Benzema insists Saturday’s incident was due to his frustration with manager Alain Perrin.
Perrin played the striker out on the left wing, and Benzema made it quite clear he is not prepared to be marginalised in the team line-up.
"I was upset because I take no pleasure in this position," he was quoted as saying on Goal.com.
"Everyone has accepted the fact that I didn't shake hands with Hatem, but this has nothing to do with him."
mind games, mind games. cannot fall for it.
later benzema and ben arfa combined to devastating effect, then man utd would be doomed.
Ya lor i remember the first leg, Ben Arfa was like dribbling through the defence so easily.
*Twinkle Toes*

i dun think man u will go with 4-4-2
i believe that AF will packed the midfield with 3 in the middle.
could be something like this...4-5-1 with Ron and Rooney playing advance positions
VDS
Brown Rio Vida Evra
Ron Scholes Anderson/Fletcher Carrick Rooney
Tevez
Other than Ben Arfa and Benzema, we have to look out for players like Govou and Toloulan too...

Okay. Man Utd through to the q-finals.
I suppose all the English clubs; including Chelsea & Liverpool would be through.
so many chances to really kill off the game...but it just seems they cannot score except for the ronaldo's goal..
