Manchester United may find themselves eight points behind leaders Arsenal by the time this tea-time kick-off gets underway.
Kevin Keegan would just "love it", if he could gain his first win in six league and cup games of his current spell in charge, "against them".
United lost their last league game, home to Manchester rivals City, but have not experienced successive defeats in 107 Premier League outings, when beaten away to Norwich and Everton on 9 and 20 April 2005 respectively.
The Magpies are without a win in nine, and are experiencing their worst ever season in the Premier League. But they have never been relegated from this league.
United ran riot against a hapless Newcastle in the reverse fixture in January with six unanswered second half goals, which included Cristiano Ronaldo's first hat-trick for the Red Devils.
Newcastle (from): Given, Harper, Forster, Beye, N'Zogbia, Enrique, Cacapa, Taylor, Faye, Edgar, Butt, Smith, Milner, Duff, Barton, LuaLua, Owen, Viduka, Ameobi, Carroll.
Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Anderson, Scholes, Hargreaves, Giggs, Rooney, Tevez, Kuszczak, Saha, Carrick, Nani, O'Shea, Fletcher, Park, Simpson.
Reds set for changes
Sir Alex Ferguson has a full squad to select from ahead of the Reds' Premier League trip to Newcastle on Saturday, but the United boss is certain to make changes to keep a freshness to his side's play.
Ryan Giggs, who suffered a knee injury in a tackle with Juninho in the first half of Wednesday's Champions League clash, is available.
The Welshman was replaced by Nani in the 65th minute as United went in search of an equaliser, but he was able to train on Friday.
The United boss confirmed the stand-in skipper would be available for the visit to St James' Park, but revealed he may even leave some players behind.
“I may freshen up and make a few changes,” Sir Alex told reporters on Friday.
“We’re looking for enough freshness to get over Wednesday’s travelling into Europe.
“It can be difficult coming back off a mid-week tie in Europe, so hopefully I can pick the right team for the occasion."

One more goal from United will kill Newcastle's players spirit for this game... 2 goals still not safe yet cos if they think they can get one, then still got chance to come back... One more for Man United please...
