  Cristiano Ronaldo has been named January's Player of the Month, with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson being handed the manager's gong.

  The Portugal winger scored six goals in the Premier League last month including his first league hat-trick and hit a stunning free-kick against Portsmouth.

  It has taken him to the top of the league scoring charts with 19 goals so far this season and earned him his third award.

  Ferguson earned his latest prize, and his 20th managerial gong in total, by leading the Red Devils to victory in all four league games without conceding a goal.
