Manucho, signed this month by Manchester United, is being sent out on loan to the Greek side Panathinaikos.
The Angolan international forward, currently involved with his country at the Africa Cup of Nations, impressed Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson enough during a trial at Old Trafford that he wasted no time in signing him on a contract that runs until 2011.
However, United have been frustrated in their attempts to obtain a work permit for Manucho, so have opted to send him out on loan to ensure he gets playing time and European experience under his belt.
Setanta understand that United were approached by 14 clubs when they let it be known that Manucho could be available for loan.
Teams in Portugal, Italy and Belgium reportedly made offers to borrow the striker, but Panathinaikos won the race.
From the Angola squad's camp in Ghana, Manucho has confirmed he will be on his way to Athens after the tournament.
He said: "After the ACN I will return to Luanda and then head to Athens.
“I am looking forward to playing in Greece before hopefully being a success at Old Trafford.”
