Hargreaves plays it cool
Tottenham may have gone in front during SundayÂ’s FA Cup fixture but Owen Hargreaves insists he was never worried about the result.
The Reds midfielder says there was no cause for alarm, despite Robbie Keane giving the visitors the lead on 24 minutes.
“I never thought we’d lose the game,” Hargreaves told MUTV. “I think we were just a bit unfortunate to concede a goal at the time we did. At that point in the game I thought we had been the better team.
"Conceding a goal made it difficult but we responded well. We knew we had to keep playing our game and eventually we’d open them up.”
It was Carlos Tevez who netted the equaliser, while Cristiano Ronaldo bagged his 24th and 25th goals of the season to secure UnitedÂ’s passage to the fifth round.
“You’re actually surprised when he doesn’t score these days!” Hargreaves said of the Portuguese winger. “It’s got to that level where he scores so often.”
Although United ran out 3-1 winners, the final score fails to reflect just how close Spurs came to forcing a replay.
“They had a few chances and had one that came off the post at the end when the score was 2-1,” Hargreaves said.
“We were possibly careless at times but that’s just a consequence of how we play – we get forward, we take chances, we always try to score. There are good and bad points to that, but in the end I think we deserved to win the game.”
