MANCHESTER UNITED say they will never sell Cristiano Ronaldo — not even for £50million. Chief executive David Gill insisted even a record-busting bid from the likes of Real Madrid would be refused out of hand.
Gill said: “There’s no chance of us selling him. Absolutely no way, whatever the money. “He signed a new contract last season to 2012 and we are not a selling club. Alex Ferguson has never let a player go when he was not happy to do so. “Cristiano is happy here. Alex and Carlos Queiroz know his mind and what he’s about.
“Everything about him is Manchester United. He’s like George Best, Eric Cantona. “You can’t sell players like that and we are not going to sell players like that.” Gill was speaking as United released their yearly accounts, which show a profit of £60m on a turnover of £245m.
Spend on players In September, Arsenal claimed to be the biggest earners in English football after announcing a turnover of £201m. Gill said: “We knew our revenues and profits would be in excess of Arsenal’s. “We have a leading position in world sport and these results demonstrate it.”
Last year United spent £60m on Nani, Anderson, Owen Hargreaves and Carlos Tevez. They are now backing Fergie with a £12m offer for Ajax striker Klaus Jan Huntelaar, but Gill accepts no matter how much club owners the Glazer family spend on players they may never win over some fans.
He said: “They haven’t interfered. They let the manager get on with it and they have been very supportive. “But there will be people who won’t accept them, even if we were to win three European Cups on the bounce.
“We give fans great football.”
