Ex-Red defender Gary Pallister, who won 22 England caps, believes that Ferdinand proved at Anfield that he's a class act on whom the Italian can build his England side.
"Rio was the best player on the park at Anfield," Gary told M.E.N. Sport.
"If Fabio Capello watched the game on Sunday or manages to watch it then any doubts there may be will have been dispelled.
"You judge players in the big matches and there can be no doubts that United versus Liverpool is top in that category at Premiership level and Ferdinand was commanding and solid.
"If the new England manager sees the video then he can't help but notice it.
"Every player has got to impress Capello now. It's a clean slate and I know there is talk about some of the older players having had their chances but if Capello doesn't fancy Ferdinand after that performance at Anfield then he must be blind.
"A lot had been written in the build up to the game about the danger of Fernando Torres and what he has brought to Liverpool this season.
"The Spanish striker is certainly a huge talent and has been an enormous additional threat for them but Rio completely shackled him.
"He snuffed him out and marshalled United's back four with maturity."
