Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra has warned his side that SundayÂ’s victory over Liverpool will be fruitless, unless they can continue their run of good form against Everton on Sunday.
Victory at Anfield was the clubs fifth in six seasons and Sir Alex FergusonÂ’s 50th win over Liverpool in his managerial career.
With Manchester United and Arsenal both winning against Liverpool and Chelsea respectively, it appears to be developing into a two horse race for the title, but Evra is refusing to get carried away by the result.
"The result is very positive," said the France international.
"Winning at Anfield as a Manchester United player is the best moment of my career - and, after last season, it has happened twice now.
"From the psychological side it was excellent. But it was still only worth three points and now we must forget it and focus on Everton.
"Yes, we have beaten Liverpool but if we lose at home against Everton, the victory will have been for nothing."
Carlos Tevez provided the decisive winning goal at Anfield from close-range and Evra was quick to express his delight to the Argentine star, who speaks little English.
"I just went up to him and said 'Bon Jugador', which means great player," revealed the former Monaco star.
"He was very happy afterwards and rightly so."
Centre-backs Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were dominant in a battling game, but Evra also displayed his qualities at left-back and he credits the strong United performance to FergusonÂ’s rousing pre-match speech.
"Before the game, the manager spoke to every player and told them they had to be ready for the fight," he said.
"He warned us to be ready for the crowd and the pressure of the occasion and said we had to be strong throughout the team.
"Everyone heeded that message. That is why we won."
