Clashes dismay boss
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his dismay at the fan violence which preceded United's Champions League draw with Roma in Italy.
Five United supporters reportedly required hospital treatment for stab wounds following an unwelcome reprise of the scenes which marred the teams' two meetings last season.
"This is something we hoped would not happen," said Sir Alex. "We wanted a nice quiet night and to be able to go home with no incident. It is disappointing that has not happened.
"Obviously, we are not sure of the details, but we hope the supporters concerned will be okay."
A club spokesman told ManUtd.com:
"As a club we are disappointed that this has occurred as we worked extremely hard with the relevant authorities to avoid any such circumstances.
"Naturally we are concerned for the quick recovery of those involved, but we are relieved that the injuries are 'light' according to authorities."
