ARSENAL legend Sammy Nelson thought his days of embarrassing the FA ended when he was fined for showing Highbury's North Bank his backside during a game against Coventry almost 30 years ago. But yesterday Soho Square were forced to examine the former left back's actions again after he was accused by TV viewers of botching Sunday's FA Cup third-round draw. Fans were logging on to the YouTube website yesterday to work out if Nelson mistook a number 25 for a 24 when doing the draw. Certainly those who called the BBC to complain on Sunday thought he did, especially as a few moments later Nelson appeared to cover the number on the 25 ball with his fingers.
Nelson, 58, has assured friends he did not make a mistake and an FA spokesman said: 'There's no mystery and no problem with the draw. The first ball is a 24 but because there's a line underneath the numbers, at that angle on the film it does look like a 25.'
Had the balls been the other way round, Manchester United would have been drawn away to Bristol City instead of Aston Villa, with Middlesbrough going to Villa Park. Decide for yourself at: www.dailymail.co.uk
Amazing how he could see 25 as 24...
