FERGUSON FACES VIDIC DILEMMA
Sir Alex Ferguson will have the final say over whether Nemanja Vidic plays for Manchester United or Serbia next weekend. Ferguson is not due back at United's Carrington training complex until Thursday but the Scot has been alerted to Vidic's possible participation in his country's twice-postponed Euro 2008 qualifier with Kazakhstan.
UEFA have confirmed that, although the game is a competitive one, as it now falls outside a FIFA allocated 'international window' - thanks to the heavy snowfalls that have hit Belgrade - Serbia have no automatic right to the keep the defender after Wednesday's clash with Poland.
It means that Ferguson must decide whether to release Vidic, who should be involved in Saturday's Barclays Premier League encounter with Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
The dilemma is made more tricky at the moment because Serbia still have an outside chance of qualifying. However, that remote hope will be extinguished if Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal pick up a point from their home game with Finland, a result that will almost certainly see Vidic head back to Manchester to resume club duties.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports have emerged that Wayne Rooney will return to training this week way ahead of schedule. Rooney was initially ruled out for four weeks after suffering an ankle injury in a freak training-ground accident prior to United's Premier League win over Blackburn.
However, if the speculation proves to be correct and Rooney comes through unscathed, he could be in line for a place on the bench at Bolton - where he scored a brilliant hat-trick last year. Ferguson has problems up front anyway, with Carlos Tevez not due back to training until Friday after completing Argentina's World Cup qualifier in Colombia.
In addition, while Louis Saha was able to start in Rooney's absence in the win over Blackburn, his fitness is so fragile Ferguson will not want to be over-reliant on the Frenchman. -
Nolan fires warning
Bolton captain Kevin Nolan has warned United the Trotters' lowly league position could lull them into a false sense of security at the Reebok Stadium this weekend.
New boss Gary Megson has inspired confidence in the team, which currently presides over a bottom three position in the Premier League.
In the last six games Bolton have lost one and drawn five, which suggests there has been a return to the stubbornness that characterised Sam Allardyce's teams during his time in charge.
Skipper Nolan says Wanderers are on the up. "I certainly believe we'll be in the top ten come the end of the season," he told the official Bolton website.
"I can see what's been going on over the last couple of weeks and I've seen the quality of players we have here."
The fact is Bolton have won just once all season and conceded 18 goals in 13 matches, scoring just 11. So Nolan isn't fooling himself into thinking anything other than a long gruelling season lies ahead.
"There is a long way to go and I know I am being optimistic but our confidence is back, and once we get a few wins I really believe we'll be in the top ten later in the season." -
ROONEY RETURN PENCILLED IN
Wayne Rooney has been pencilled in to make his Manchester United comeback against Fulham on December 3. Rooney suffered an ankle injury in a freak training ground accident at Carrington a fortnight ago and was initially ruled out for a month.
However, while Sir Alex Ferguson denied reports the 22-year-old had already returned to training, he did confirm Rooney should be fit to face the Cottagers a week on Monday. "Wayne did some light running yesterday and is doing well. He won't be fit for the match against Bolton tomorrow or Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday but he should be fine for Fulham."
Ferguson confirmed skipper Gary Neville will make an appearance for the Red Devils' second string next week as he steps up his battle back from a series of muscular problems. However Ferguson was happy to report Carlos Tevez is fit and ready to face Bolton at the Reebok Stadium, rejecting completely reports from Argentina that the forward was 'feeling tired'.
Apart from long-term injury victims Paul Scholes, Park Ji-sung, Mikael Silvestre and Ben Foster (all knee) Ferguson's only doubt for tomorrow is defender Nemanja Vidic. The Serbian has been released from international duty but picked up a knock against Poland which could see Wes Brown start at centre-half alongside Rio Ferdinand. -

When tevez missed that open chance.. I knew that this game is destined for a lost.. Just like the loss at Man City, poor play + no luck = lost.. Simple.. Disgraceful performance.. Bolton deserve win.. Kudos..
