Manchester United are reportedly tracking Rangers full-back Alan Hutton as a long-term replacement for Gary Neville.
The Scotland international has emerged as a target for Alex Ferguson, who is looking to add to his self proclaimed strongest ever squad at Old Trafford.
The full back has gained valuable experience with Scotland during their dramatic Euro 2008 qualification campaign and with Rangers in the Champions League this season.
The 22 year old has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, but United are believed to be the front-runners for the full-back.
The continuing injury worries of Gary Neville have prompted FergusonÂ’s interest in his fellow Scotsman, whom he has reportedly seen play a number of times.
England international Wes Brown, has deputised at right-back for Gary Neville, but the centre-half is not a natural full-back.
Ferguson allegedly believes that further cover is needed and that Hutton meets the mangers fastidious requirements.
Neville, 32, has been continually hampered by injury this season after damaging his ankle back in March.
