Shevchenko believes his former team are in for a tough test in the North West against the side he fancies to win the tournament.
"There are many favourites, but the team I fear most are Manchester United. They were in the semi-final last year and in the summer they became even stronger,” said the Chelsea striker.
"With the players they bought like Anderson, Nani, (Owen) Hargreaves and (Carlos) Tevez they now have enough quality to go on and win this competition.
"The quality in their defence also demonstrates just how strong they are this season. With so many strikers they need a good defence playing behind them.
"It's really difficult to try and breach them. Rio Ferdinand is a great defender. (Nemanja) Vidic seems to be getting better by the day. And let's not forget that behind the defenders they have a great keeper in (Edwin) Van der Sar.
"Obviously they have two or three stars which shine but I'm a big fan of Ronaldo. He's very quick and physically strong. Last season it was Kaka who dominated the Champions League with Milan. This season I believe Ronaldo could do the same with United."
