Reason for VDS substitution
Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar was withdrawn after complaining of pain in a toe injury at half-time, although the veteran Dutchman should be fit for Sunday's clash with Blackburn. -
Ferguson eyes top spot in group
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson set his sights on topping their Champions League group after reaching the knockout stage.
He said after the 4-0 win against Dynamo Kiev: "If we beat Sporting Lisbon, we win the group and we want to try to make sure that happens.
"When a side is in the position we were and meet a team who are as defensive as that, it can become tedious.
"Kiev came with the intention not get too embarrassed."
The visitors sat back, but United's array of attacking talent ensured they ran out comfortable winners.
Ferguson took the opportunity to rest several members of his first-team, but insisted their absence was purely precautionary.
He said: "The plan with Owen Hargreaves was always to give him a rest after the Arsenal game.
"Rio Ferdinand has played every game this season and it was a good opportunity to give Ryan Giggs a break as well." -
didn;t watch the match becuz of cold..
but still a good result with us qualifying for the knockout with 2 games still in hand..
