The Manchester United player is being helped through an eight-month recovery from knee surgery by his girlfriend Kate, who has a psychology degree from Manchester University.
Foster credits her with keeping his spirits up as he recovers from a complicated knee operation that has forced the 24-year-old to shelve his own dream of a European Championship finals place next summer.
'I'm four months into my recovery with four more to come,' said Foster. 'Having Kate there to talk to when I'm a bit down has been just brilliant.
'She tests her psychology abilities out on me, I'm her guinea pig! If I was in Paul's position, she'd tell me a good thing to do would be to get one of the media guys to make a DVD showing lots of good saves that I'd made — a reminder of what you're capable of.
'She's taught me that when you drop a clanger it's a freak event, you get over it and you move on. You can't let it upset you. Robbo knows that he is a good goalkeeper and that he has nothing to worry about.'
Foster made his England debut against Spain in February during a brilliant loan at Watford but has yet to play a Premier League game for United after a £1million transfer from Stoke in 2005.
