Put it this way. All great teams have a preferred style of play. Generally, most of them favour quick short passing with plenty off-the-ball running. Barcelona, Milan and Arsenal favour playing it through the centre. United likes to play it down the sides.Originally posted by iceFatboy:one thing kept ringing in my ears -> AC Milan coach "mufc is great team, but everyone in europe knows how they going to play" and this led to this topic.
rem, the last time we played milan, they clamped down on ronaldo, and that really "cut" off one of our impt attacks.. showing their superior midfield strength.
yes, last season, we did well, but we got fantastic contributions from everywhere else.. but this season, we already see how other teams are reacting and packing the final 1/3, restricting the fast/short passing that MUFC likes.
my point is that we should be able to stamp our play, but we should be able to react and workaround. multi-dimensional..
Yes, mufc play thru the wings, but when Milan put the stops there, MUFC tried to go thru middle. It was painful to see how MUFC struggled.Originally posted by Othello_Red:Put it this way. You have to take such comments with a pinch of salt because it's mind games operating here.
Still, I agree with Ancelotti. "MUFC is great team, but everyone in Europe knows how they are going to play"
The simple answer to that?
We play to win.
There was a small German club that had a different style of play. They built play up from the centre, then switched to the wings and quickly sent crosses back in.Originally posted by iceFatboy:Yes, mufc play thru the wings, but when Milan put the stops there, MUFC tried to go thru middle. well, let's see when the team is fully fit.
well, unsure whether MUFC will be able to do this given their usual playing style, and the set of players.Originally posted by Othello_Red:There was a small German club that had a different style of play. The purpose was to lull the other team to pack the centre, then cause them to be disorganized when the ball was switched to the flanks, resulting in space when the final ball was driven back in. I think the team was told to deliberately induce the opposition to pack the middle.
Wonder if that tactic will work now.
I believe that given the players brought in, MUFC is moving towards the total football style of Ajax and Holland under Cruyff.Originally posted by iceFatboy:well, unsure whether MUFC will be able to do this given their usual playing style, and the set of players.
but with tevez, and rooney, it is more fluid and fast so may be more potent.
but you will never know unless tested.
woohoo total football!Originally posted by Othello_Red:I believe that given the players brought in, MUFC is moving towards the total football style of Ajax and Holland under Cruyff.
It seems to me that the fullbacks, wingers and forwards switch about a lot. There isn't that much ridgidity in positioning.
