Wayne Rooney has shown his devotion to the Three Lions — by getting a patriotic tattoo on his arm.
The Manchester United star has had a St George’s flag and the words “English And Proud” emblazoned on his shoulder.
Rooney, 21, who has been recovering from injury, is expected to unveil the £200 design if he plays against Sporting Lisbon in tonight’s Champions League fixture.
He already boasts a “Coleen” tattoo on his right arm along with an 8in Celtic design.
But pals who have seen his new artwork say it is his boldest yet.
One friend said: “It’s well impressive and shows how much his country means to him.
“Everybody knows how proud Wayne is to put on the England shirt and now they will be able to see that.”
Well-built Rooney usually rips his shirt off at the end of games so fans will get an eyeful of the design, which was done last week when he and team-mate Wes Brown went to 72 Tattoo in Urmston, Manchester.
Owners Gavin Rourke and Sean Lyons, both 32, said Roo was “well pleased” with it.
Gavin said: “It’s about 6in by 6in and took two hours to finish.
“Wayne’s a sound lad and never flinched once. He has already told us he’ll be back for another.”
Brown had a 12in “life, love and loyalty” symbol tattooed on his ribs.
