Reds chief executive David Gill says United's summer signings are an indication of the club's ambition to build a team that will achieve even more success in the future.
Speaking to United Review ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Reading, Gill said that the club now had “two of the most exciting young players in the world” in Nani and Anderson and that their arrival, as well as that of Owen Hargreaves, have strengthened the squad even further.
“With Rooney still only 21 and Ronaldo 22, we can expect thrilling years ahead at United," he added.
In a welcome note to fans to mark the start of the 2007/08 season, Gill says he hopes the forthcoming campaign will be just as exciting as the last.
“Last season was a fantastic blend of flair, passion and tension,” he said. “The eventual success wasn’t without its moments of high drama (remember going down 2-0 at Everton). But the manager has always said that there is something about United teams that means they like to do things the hard way.”
Among Gill's highlights in 2006/07 were unforgettable moments such as the wins over Bolton, John OÂ’SheaÂ’s winner at Anfield and the magnificent 7-1 thrashing of AS Roma in the Champions League.
And with more than 57,000 season tickets sold for this season, he also took time to thank fans for their unrelenting support of the club. “Thanks for your continuing support," he writes. "Your involvement has always been an integral part of the club’s success and this campaign will be no different in that regard.”
