Manchester United new boy Nani will have some explaining to do this morning after defying Sir Alex Ferguson's order not to per form his trademark celebratory somersault. Fergie had banned £17million signing Nani from indulging in his spectacular goalscoring celebration on United's preseason tour of the Far East, for the winger's own safety. But last night, with Fergie forced to stay at home by wife Cathy and help her move house, Nani risked a blast of the United manager's infamous hairdryer treatment by performing his acrobatics following his stunning goal in United's 3-0 win over Glentoran.
And after openly defying Fergie when the United boss's back was turned, Nani, 20, is likely to incur his manager's wrath today when the pair come face-to-face at the club's Carrington training ground.
United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz, in charge of the side in Fergie's absence, said: "It's better for Nani not to celebrate like that, because there's always a chance of him getting injured. But that's his way of celebrating."
Nani's controversial goal antics came on a night United fielded two separate sides, each boasting more than £60m in talent, as the champions went through their final warm-up games before beginning the defence of their title.
Fergie, under orders to stay in Manchester, was not present to watch either of the United sides - at Glentoran or Dunfermline - but he need not have worried, Nani's acrobatics aside. Both of his line-ups cruised to easy wins.
