Carlos Queiroz says UnitedÂ’s players cannot wait to start their defence of the Premier League crown as he watched a Reds XI side comfortably see off Glentoran on Wednesday.
Nani, Patrice Evra and Fraizer Campbell scored for the Reds in Northern Ireland, whilst, simultaneously, Chris Eagles, Ryan Giggs and a Wayne Rooney double gave a Mike Phelan-led United team victory over Dunfermline.
“There is no doubt that the boys are ready,” Carlos told Sky Sports. “Everybody is excited about the start of the new season and ready to face the challenge of this championship.
“It was very nice to see some of the football we played [against Glentoran],” he added. “The players took it seriously and we played with a lot pace.”
Nani, in particular, impressed against the Irish Premier League team, as did youngsters Campbell and Lee Martin.
“It was good to see the attacking combinations of our players, and we scored three beautiful goals,” said Carlos. Everyone was pleased with the performance.
“Anderson is a little bit light after his recent injury, but it’s coming for him. We believe in 15 days or so he will be fully ready.”
Nemanja Vidic, who suffered a cut above his eye following an aerial challenge, had a couple of stitches in the wound, but Queiroz says it will not prevent the Serbian centre-back from starting alongside Rio Ferdinand against Reading on Sunday.
