Manchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic has lavished praise on his teamÂ’s defensive abilities.United have been a beacon of attacking prowess in their pre-season build-up, scoring fifteen goals in four games, from nine different players.
Fluid attacking football was the mantra that won United the title last season, but Vidic has urged people not to forget about their defensive abilities, with the team keeping three successive clean sheets.
“Offensively we have a lot of quality strikers and quality players who can attack,” said the 25-year-old.
“But we have some good defenders as well. My partnership with Rio Ferdinand has developed really well and we try to improve with every game.
“But there is also Gary Neville, Patrice Evra, Mikael Silvestre and Wes Brown, so we have just as much quality there.”
“The arrival of Owen Hargreaves is great. His job will be to work for the team and help to keep a clean sheet.”
The imposing centre-back has made a big impression on the Premiership since arriving at United from Spartak Moscow eighteen months ago, and has become regarded as one of the best defenders in the league.
Vidic has also been impressed by new signing Nani: “Nani has great skills but he is also extremely fit and strong.”
But the Serbian can envisage a tough fight to retain the title next season: “Clubs are buying more quality players, and we’ll need to work harder if we are going to win the title again,” he said.
