Manchester United's Jonny Evans has revealed that he is shocked at how dramatically his career has progressed in the past 12 months.
Evans impressed whilst on loan with Royal Antwerp and Sunderland during the last campaign and the Belfast-born defender also went on to represent his country at senior level.
He is now aiming to carve out a regular first-team place in the coming season and is part of the squad currently on tour in the Far East.
And, as he looks to make an impact under club boss Sir Alex Ferguson, Evans explained how he owes a lot to his former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez.
He said: "It is surprising how things can turn out in football. My aim at Antwerp was to play my way out of there.
"I wanted to show I was too good for that level and then I could move on. Thankfully, Lawrie Sanchez gave me a chance to play in one of the biggest internationals of the season against Spain.
"I took my chance and I have been involved ever since. That gave me a platform to play in the Championship with Sunderland, and things went well from there as well. It was a great season for me."
Evans, a product of the Red Devils' youth system, is now eager to assist his team in winning trophies.
He said: "Once Sir Alex says you are staying, you stay - it is as simple as that.
"I am a Manchester United fan. I want them to be the best and be lifting as many trophies as possible at the end of the season. If I can be lifting them as well it would be just superb."
