United may have let a 2-1 lead slip in Tokyo's Saitama Stadium on Monday but Paul Scholes says Reds fans shouldn't be concerned.
"At this stage, winning's not the most important thing," Scholes told MUTV after the final whistle.
"It was nice to get the first game out of the way and we played decent football at times. Right now, it's all about getting our fitness levels up and we're all working towards playing Reading on the first day of the season. We need to be firing on all cylinders for that one."
The midfielder says it's important United get off to another quick start in the league and he believes the Reds' summer signings will aid that objective.
"Every player gets excited when new players come, especially with the quality of players that have joined. They all look impressive and they can only make us better.
"We want to do the same as we did last year [win the league] and maybe win the FA Cup and Champions League as well. I think we've got a squad that's capable of having as good a season as last year, if not better."
