Rivals Underestimated Sir Alex, Says Neville

Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes their Premiership rivals underestimated the expertise of Sir Alex Ferguson prior to their Premiership success last season.
United ended their three year Premiership drought by lifting the title last season and Neville feels nobody expected the revival, although he believes Ferguson knew exactly what he was doing.
"Nobody thought Manchester United would win the Premier League last season," he said. "But they underestimated us. They underestimated the knowledge and class of our manager.
"For two to three years we had been in suffering. At the start of the season we added Michael Carrick to our squad and lost Ruud van Nistelrooy. But Chelsea added Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack.
"But the manager knew what he was doing over a period of two years in building a new team and now we are in a fantastic position.
"Last season we played the best football, the most attacking and entertaining football - and we deserved to win the trophy.
"I don't think a United fan could ever be as excited about the players, the team and about the way the club is, as today."
Meanwhile the 32-year-old right-back revealed that he is closing in on a return to fitness following his foot injury and hopes to be availabe in time for the start of the new season. -

I think he should stick around until the next leader emerges..
by that I meant someone who can really up the tempo when needed or slow it down... and to stick it in when necessary.. -

I've said it before and i'll say it again, You're a defender, what's the point of overlapping runs and crosses when you cant even do your proper job? So many times i've seen the Right-Back slot so awfully exposed and none of you noticed?
His speed and height is questionable and with big and burly strikers flooding the EPL, i don't see how Neville can manage to sustain for so long. Because of his loyalty?

I think Ferguson plays him precisely for those abilies. Evra has those abilities as well. It's not say his tackles are weak either. Perhaps he is a little lacking in pace given his age, but it's not easy to find that many defenders better than him in EPL, nor as dedicated to the cause. Perhaps Man U would need someone in a season or two, but still, I feel it's no easy job to replace him because of his contributions to the team.
