  When the strikers are banging in the goals, it's easy to forget the men at the other end who are employed to keep them out. The Reds have a proud history of great goalkeepers, but who takes the cake when it comes to United's best in the Premier League?
  
  Peter Schmeichel

  A commanding presence, Schmeichel occupied the no.1 jersey at Old Trafford for eight seasons (seven of those in the Premier League). Renowned for his accurate distribution and spread-eagle technique in one-on-one situations, the Danish international is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers to ever play the game.

  The Frenchman made up for a lack of height with immense athleticism and quick reflexes. To the delight of the Old Trafford crowd, he also frequently exhibited an eccentric side and was not averse to dribbling around opponents. A regular in the French national team, Barthez joined United from Monaco in 2000 and won the Premier League in his first season.

  The Reds' current goalkeeper, van der Sar moved to Old Trafford from Fulham in the summer of 2005. A strong shot-stopper and adept in the air, the Dutchman's keen positional sense means he often makes goalkeeping look easy. And while he can be away from the action for long periods, he's invariably alert when it matters.
