Anderson loses on Brazil bow
Anderson made his full international debut for Brazil in the early hours of Thursday morning, but was helpless as Dunga's side were beaten by Mexico in their Copa America opener.
The reigning champions made a nightmare start to the game, conceding quickfire goals in the 24th and 29th minutes to Nery Castillo and Ramon Morales.
Castillo showed sublime skill to outfox the Brazilian defence before poking home, while Morales curled a superb free kick into the corner to double his side's lead.
Anderson was introduced as a half-time substitute for Elano, and his appearance undoubtedly galvanised the Brazilians' performance.
Brazil spurned a host of chances, either through missing the target or the sensational form of Mexico keeper Francisco Guillermo Ochoa.
Just when Anderson seemed to have beaten Ochoa with a powerful close-range effort, Mexico skipper Rafael Marquez deflected his shot over the bar.
The 19-year-old and his colleagues appealed in vain for handball, but it was Mexico who came closest to scoring again when Castillo somehow missed an open goal in injury time.
Sky Sports pundit Trevor Francis was certainly impressed by Anderson's contribution, admitting: "Brazil were better second half, and I think the introduction of Anderson was very positive.
"It's the first time I've really studied him and he looks a very talented player, obviously that's the reason why Sir Alex has taken him. He's got lovely balance and he was the driving force from midfield."
