CARSHALTON Athletic have made a bid for Manchester United's floodlight's following the Premiership Club's generous decision to give away their 118 stand-mounted lights which are shortly to be upgraded and given to non-League clubs.
Chairman Harry Driver has submitted the bid on behalf of the Robins whose current floodlights were erected in 1966, the year of England's famous World Cup victory.
The replacement lights would be of tremendous benefit to the club and to nearby residents as the amount of light pollution would be significantly reduced.
He said: "I've been in touch with Manchester United because I read a story recently which said they were looking at giving away their old floodlights to a non-league club. Gaining the Manchester United lights would enable the club to invest the money saved in improving facilities for the club's junior sides and local youth football."
A decision is expected within the next fortnight.
