Gudjohnsen link with Man Utd

Barcelona are putting transfer matters to one side after Eidur Gudjohnsen was linked with a move to Manchester United as part of a swap deal with Gerard Pique.
Gudjohnsen, who left Chelsea for Barcelona 12 months ago, is reportedly no longer wanted by Camp Nou coach Frank Rijkaard.
His father, and agent, has recently admitted that the Iceland international is not considering a return to the Premier League in the summer.
But reports in the Spanish media have claimed that Barca are keen to set up a swap deal involving centre-half Pique.
The youngster came through the Barca youth setup before joining United and has impressed during a season-long loan at Real Zaragoza.
However, ahead of the final game of the season against Gimnastic on Sunday, which Gudjohnsen will miss, Barca want to focus on matters in hand.
"Our objective is to win the last match and to win La Liga," a club spokesman told Sport.
"The question of players is on stand-by until the end of the season."

I doubt it will happen. especially since Saviola is leaving on a Bosman and E'to or Ronny might go. plus, Giuly is on his way out as well. unless they suddenly mass produce plenty of forwards or go on a shopping spree, this move seems quite unlikely.
and Gudjohnsen isn't top-class in my opinion -

I think we need a pacy striker upfront to complement not one who is in the mould of Larsson..

Somehow i can't see us leaving Pique go this summer for any amount of money. His stock has risen on the back of some very impressive performances ths season for Zaragoza. Next season he'll be eased into the team & we'll see if he can cope with the EPL, but until he's been given a chance to prove himself he's going nowhere. The rumours about Quagliarella have been floating around for a month now. He seems to be the hot young property in Italy at the moment, quick & a good finisher at 10 million, would imo, be a steal. We'll have to wait & see, with the news on Saha's knee being better than expected we may not make any additions to our strikeforce, which may not be ideal, but we'll wait & see.

No Old Trafford interest in Eidur
Eidur Gudjohnsen's father and agent insists he has had no contact with Manchester United regarding a move to Old Trafford.
The former Chelsea forward has endured mixed success at Barcelona this season, making only sporadic appearances and operating largely as a reserve to Samuel Eto'o.
United are apparently keen to recruit a new striker this summer with Louis Saha's ongoing injury troubles and Alan Smith's future undecided.
The English champions have been strongly linked with the Iceland international but his father, Arnor, insists Barca will not make a decision on his future until after this weekend's La Liga climax.
He said: "Honestly, I have not heard anything from Manchester United. I can confirm that.
"It's only speculation. I think the club will decide many things after the weekend and what is going to happen after the game (against Gimnastic).
"Then, maybe you might see a clearer picture of what's going to happen. But at this stage, nothing."
Asked whether his son would be willing to stay in Barcelona, Gudjohnsen said: "Probably. He's very happy there.
"He hasn't played so much after Christmas, but he came in before Christmas when Eto'o was injured and did quite well.
"So he actually wants to have another chance next season to prove himself even more."
The forward has been ruled out of Barca's final game in Tarragona, when they must better Real Madrid's result to have any hope of retaining the title they have won in the last two years.
Barca announced on Friday that tests revealed Gudjohnsen has inflamed cartilage in his right knee, keeping him out for around a week.

Eidur open to English return
Eidur Gudjohnsen has refused to rule out the prospect of a return to England this summer.
The former Bolton and Chelsea star has been strongly linked with a move back to the Premier League, with the likes of Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and West Ham all linked.
Manchester United were the most recent club linked with a swoop as reports in Spain claimed they were ready to offer former Barcelona starlet Gerard Pique back to his former club.
Gudjohnsen's father and agent Arnor has already denied having any contact with United, but his son has admitted he could be tempted by a return to England after 12 months in Catalunya.
"I joined Barcelona to be part of the club's triumphs but it is not easy for me when you look at the club's forward line and see all the big names there," he is quoted in the Daily Mail.
"Each minute has been a special test for me but to sit on the bench is not the most desirable experience for a player.
"I don't think I have failed in Spain but perhaps I have not totally won the confidence of the coach. If I leave then my ideal idea would be to return to British football.
"If Barcelona decide to place me in the market then I need to study all the details. But a perfect choice for me will be a club that plays in the Champions League.
"Obviously Manchester United fit that category."
Celtic have also been linked with a move and the Icelander admits he has heard about them and a number of English clubs.
"I know there has been some contact with English clubs and with Celtic but the answer to this question does not rely just on me," he said.
Meanwhile, rumoured makeweight Pique - says he has not heard about any swap deal but a move back Los Cules does appeal.
"I have contract with the Manchester United and I have not said anything about my future," he told Sport.
"It is not a secret that I am Cule [a Barca fan] and I have always said that my illusion is to return to play one day with Barc.
"I am very been thankful to Manchester, but I have never spoken with them of the possibility of an exchange."
